A Letter From Mac
I am so grateful for the opportunity to serve you as your State Representative in District 25 Alabama State Legislature. The past two years have been very interesting and at times very frustrating. During my 1st session in 2007 I was very busy learning the system and making friends with my colleagues in the House. The 2008 session was very productive: I was able promote some very good legislation and build up some beneficial friendships with my colleagues in the legislature and the governmental staff.
I am conservative in my beliefs and feel very strongly about the opportunity to represent the people who live in our District and our State. After working 2 years in the state legislature I realize the value of conservative leadership. I must admit that the word conservative takes on many different meanings in the political arena. Abortion, marriage between and man and a woman, gambling, the sale of alcohol are all issues that seem to take center stage when we talk about a conservative. But, what about being conservative when it comes to being true to your constituents and supporting the issues which are in the best interest of your District and State? What about being true to your values of moral character such as being a person who speaks the truth, or one who has the integrity to follow through with commitments and promises made to individuals? What about the person who takes time to actually think about the legislation they are working on and how it will affect the people they represent, instead of how it will help them get re-elected? What about the person who values their family and strives to live a life worthy of respect instead of a life tarnished with infidelity and dishonest actions during their political service?
To me, this is what being a conservative is all about. I will always value the responsibility you have entrusted me with and I will strive to earn your respect and I will always be honest in my actions. I work very hard to listen to my constituents and vote according to the consensus. I will always try and vote your wants and needs and not my own and I will be honorable in my service to you.
As we continue to update this web site, I encourage you to send e-mails to enlighten me on your concerns for our area. I have taken aggressive actions to have an influence on our transportation issues, public education, public safety and accountability of elected officials to the people of our state. The more information I have from you the more knowledgeable I am when the time comes to vote. On most issues the general public does not know all the facts and the decisions are very difficult at times; but, the more I am informed by you the better I can process the information and vote according to the needs of our district.
Thank you for allowing me to serve you!
Mac
