Internet access grows to see state spending, campaign financing

MONTGOMERY - A package of state government ethics and transparency bills, some of which will make it easier for citizens to review legislators and candidates' ethics forms online, are now law.
Three North Alabama lawmakers, including two freshmen, had been battling to pass the measures since taking office in 2007.
Gov. Bob Riley signed the last bill Friday, putting into law what he has done as practice since he's been in the office - requiring governors to report details of state aircraft use and spending from the Governor's Contingency Fund.
Rep. Mac McCutcheon, R-Capshaw, introduced that bill during his first year in 2007, but it didn't get beyond the House.
